District 1 Teams Show Well in the 2011 Playoffs

District 1 is proud to announce the success of many of its teams! This year, many teams had great success and have some received hardware to prove it. We would like to thank all the players, coaches, volunteers and parents for the time and effort they put in to make this year such a success. Everyone involved put in a lot of time and effort and we would like to represent them proudly!

Here are the finishing results of the District 1 teams:

  • The Giants District 1’s Big League team is this year’s National Champions
  • The Lethbridge Southwest Junior Division team is hosting Nationals
  • The Southwest Major League team made it to the championship game for the second year in a row but faced a tough opponent in Calgary Rocky Mountain.
  • The Southwest Major AA finished 4th overall at Prairies
  • The Southwest Minor League took the title of Prairie Champions
  • In the Minor AA Division the Southchief team won the championship game, the Southwest team won bronze and Norcrest placed 4th a great showing for District one

Little League Day – June 18th 2011

Little League Alberta and the Lethbridge Bulls are pleased to present Little League Day on June 18th, 2011. Little League Day is a special event that will be hosted in Lethbridge Alberta where Little Leaguers will have the opportunity to participate in various baseball activities. The first event of the day will kick off at 11:30 am with an ultimate skills competion at Dave Elton Park, little league players are able to show up anytime from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm and compete in 4 different skill events, awards for these events will be handed out prior to the Bulls game in the evening. Next in the days activities will be a Teaching for Tomorrow Baseball School Mini Camp, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Dave Elton Park college level instructors will give players 9-15 years of age a taste of what the Teaching for Tomorrow Baseball School has to offer. After the activities at Dave Elton Park, Little Leaguers will be invited to come to Spitz Stadium to watch the Bulls Game that will start off at 7:05 pm against the Edmonton Prospects, if Little Leaguers wear their team uniforms they will be granted free admission into the game! There will also be some activities before the game at Spitz Stadium from 5:00 to 7:05 pm, Little Leaguers will have the opportunity to test their arm strength with the radar gun and take some swings in the batting cages along with the opportunity to get a $1.00 hotdog and pop combo at the concession if they are dressed in uniform. Then after the Bulls game there will be the chance for Little Leaguers to participate in an Autograph and Meet the Bulls Session, this session will be open to all Little League and Baseball Alberta teams in Southern Alberta.

Does your team want to run out to their position at the Canada Day Bulls game? The team that makes the most creative Bulls Poster and brings it to us on June 18th, 2011 (Little League Day) will win tickets and the opportunity to run to his/her position with a Bulls player on Canada Day!

2011 Teaching For Tomorrow Little League Baseball School

The Rocky Mountain Baseball School has changed its name to the Teaching For Tomorrow Little League Baseball School for the upcoming 2011 camps, the Teaching For Tomorrow Little League Baseball School is focused on not only baseball skills and drills, but also teaching the players the importance of hard work, discipline, good sportsmanship and team loyalty. The Teaching For Tomorrow Little League Baseball School allows for little league players to take advantage of some of the best coaches that Southern Alberta has to offer in three different camps through out the summer.

Camp #1: 10-12 year olds – Skill Development
                 July 10-15/11

Camp #2: 12-15 year olds – Advanced Development
                 August 7-12/11

Camp #3: 13-17 year olds – High Performance
                 August 14-19/11

Some of the coaches confirmed for the 2011 Teaching For Tomorrow Little League Baseball School are Todd Hubka and Ryan McDonald; both of these coaches also coach for the Prairie Baseball Academy a college baseball program based out of Lethbridge.

Todd Hubka has spent 15 years coaching for the PBA college program in Lethbridge; the 2011 season was his first season as Head Coach of the program. He grew up playing baseball in Claresholm and surrounding areas, Todd went on to play college ball for the North Idaho Cardinals where he was 2nd team all conference. He has coached the Lethbridge Bulls Summer College team in 1999, 2006, 2007, 2008; he was also a Toronto Blue Jays guest coach in 2003. Todd is a professional caliber coach and person.

Ryan MacDonald has coached at the PBA College program for two years; he grew up in Nova Scotia and represented Team Nova Scotia in the Canada Cup in 2002 and 2003. Ryan also played for Team Nova Scotia in 2005 at the Canada Games. Ryan played for the PBA from 2004-2007 and from there moved on to play for the University of Texas at Brownville where he played for two seasons. Ryan is currently finishing his degree in Kinesiology at the University of Lethbridge. Ryan’s commitment to the game and development of skilled baseball players is exemplary.

The Teaching For Tomorrow Little League Baseball School camps are a great opportunity for any player to get high quality baseball education from some of the area’s best coaches in a fun and comfortable environment. In the upcoming weeks more information regarding the camps and how to register will be posted.

Lethbridge to Host 2011 Junior Little League Championship

Lethbridge will be hosting the Junior Little League Canadian Championships for a second consecutive year. All Little League Alberta teams will be vying for the chance to represent the Prairies in the Canadian championships. The championships are scheduled to start on August 2 and continue through till August 11. These championships are for the some of the best 13 to 15 year olds to battle it out for gold, and for the right to a to represent Canada at the Junior Little League World Series in Taylor, Michigan. There will be 5 regions represented at the championships along with the host team; regions represented will be the Maritimes, British Columbia, Prairies, Ontario and Quebec. Lethbridge is proud to host this prestigious event. All are welcome to purchase tickets for the weekend and come and support your young athletes. Little League National Coach Visits Lethbridge

Al Herback will be conduction parent and coach clinics on April 12 & April 19 and will also be spending some time at Spitz Stadium doing interviews for his newly developed baseball program Teaching For Tomorrow. Read more...

Junior Canadian Little League Championship

The Junior Little League Baseball Canadian Championships are coming to Lethbridge August 6 - 13, 2010. Spitz Stadium will play host to Canada's top 13-15 year old teams, as they battle it out for the right to represent Canada at the Little League World Series. All are welcome to participate in this great tournament and in what will certainly be great entertainment for all.

2010 Rocky Mountain Baseball School

Little League Alberta is excited to deliver this year’s Rocky Mountain Baseball School with camps in July and the final camp in August. Coaches and players from the surrounding elite baseball programs are currently being lined up and slotted in to instructor positions with hopes of having the most in-depth staff in the camp’s history by having over 100 years of coaching and playing experience to back it up.
